For about the last month I have had a wierd rash on the genital area. Im a male with no sexual contact of any kind so I don’t think its an STD or anything. But its a red rash and it kind of gives off a wied oder it itches and burns and started off on the thighs and spread to the base of the penis and upwards I’ve been putting Lotramin on for about 3 weeks but the rash hasen’t gone away. Could it possibly be a penile yeast infection or something else?

That sounds like "jock itch. There are creams and ointments you can purchase at the pharmacy or discount store in a section geared specifically to this purpose. Try one of them and you should see a big difference. Look for anti-fungal medicines (spray form or ointment) and here is a link to help you understand:

I think i know what’s going on… Your mother must be giving you oral sex as you sleep… You need to speak to your mother about this right away!
To be sure of this, set up a camera in your room tonight..
    Good Luck

It could be some kind of allergic reaction. But your best bet for an accurate diagnosis is to see a doctor or a dermatologist right away.

Go to the doctor…that sounds bad. Maybe it’s something serious?

GO SEE A DOCTOR! and if it was a yeast infection, lotrimen would work because it is made for yeast infections. Some bacterial infections could have an odor like that and then you would need to see a doctor to get proper treatment.

Sounds like yeast. Get an OTC yeast/anti fungal cream. Try that..should clear right up.

Are you on anything like amoxycillin? I had to take that for 10 days earlier this year and started to get a rash in the genital area around the end.

I took Benadryl and it went away.

It sounds like you’re right; it probably is a yeast infection. Most people assume that they only happen to women and only in vaginal orifices. That’s incorrect on both accounts. Another common yeast infection occurs on your skin when it gets moist and the natural yeast already on your skin grows prolifically.

My advice is to go and get some arrowroot powder or white kaolin clay. You can get arrowroot powder from the grocery store, and you can usually find kaolin clay at some health food stores. Call in advance and they may be able to find it for you. Easier than driving around looking for it.

You don’t want to use talc (carcinogenic) or cornstarch. Cornstarch causes yeast and fungus to spread faster. Cornstarch also usually contains fungus anyway, but that’s beside the point.

Use this as a body powder (see below for the medicated option) over the affected area as often as needed to keep it dry. This is the most important thing you can do. Also wear only cotton underpants. I suggest boxer briefs because they are snug without being too tight. They’ll cover the areas that need to be covered and help absorb sweat.

I would stop using the Lotramin since it obviously isn’t working for you. Call the health food store or Whole Foods in your area and ask if they carry geranium essential oil. When you find it, it should be $12 or less. Take your kaolin clay or arrowroot powder and put it in a Ziploc bag. Add about 10-15 drops of geranium essential oil to the bag, zip closed, and shake to make sure it’s worked through. Use this on your skin to cover the affected area.

If you can’t get geranium oil, the plain powder should still work. However, geranium essential oil is a wonderful anti-fungal/anti-yeast/anti-bacterial. It also smells good and is the same thing I recommend to add to douches for women with internal yeast infections and baby powders to clear up diaper rash.

Use the powder as a preventative in the future, and make sure to wash the area and DRY it thoroughly. Again, I stress wearing cotton underpants.

If this doesn’t clear it up in a week, call a doctor. But for the approximately $15 you may put out for this treatment, it should work great and save you a co-pay plus prescription.
