Sarah and David were sexually active and after they broke up David told Sarah that he had a yeast infection about the same time they stopped having sex and broke up. He said she was the only person he was having sex with. He occasionally drinks beer.
3 months after not having sex with David, Sarah has not had any symptoms of a yeast infection or anything out of the norm at all with her vaginal area or any where else on her body or mouth. No symptoms of anything, especially yeast infection. No smell from vaginal discharge, no "cottage cheese" looking vaginal discharge, no pain or itching around the vaginal area, nothing! She has been on birth control for over 2 years.
Is it possible that David could have gotten his yeast infection from Sarah even though she shows no symptoms of it? Or did David get it from himself (decreased immune system) or other places (yeast in foods, beer)?

Altho uncommon, it is possible for a man to get a yeast infection on his own (no woman involved)
Usually, it is due to prolonged use of antibiotics – diabetes -can be a cause
some condoms are treated with nonoxynol -9 which is a lubricant – this can cause yeast infection in men
bad diet – compromised immune system.
you mentioned food and beer – if his diet is poor and too much wrong food and drink this is a possibility.
You actually don’t know if David is being truthful about his condition – so – he might have had sex with another woman who had a yeast infection and is not being truthful.
It is possible that he could have contracted it from Sarah, even tho, she shows no sign of yeast -
yeast does live in the vagina and most of the time it stays dormant until something alters the ph balance in the vagina and then it starts taking over -
if his immune system was weak, he could have contacted this from Sarah , altho, she shows no sigh of the infection.
Hope this little bit of infomation helps.
