Question for Doctor / Pediatrician re: examining baby / child genitals?

When my daughter was 1 day old, the new male pediatrician did her 1st exam. He spread & looked at her genitals for at least 10 seconds. It struck me as odd, but I had never witnessed a baby’s 1st exam before.
I totally forgot about that (It was 4 yrs ago) until yesterday when I took my 7 yr old nephew in for a physical. Same Pediatrician. My nephew has a yeast infection on his penis. The Dr held it, pulled the skin back (he is circumcised) and examined it without gloves for quite a while. I can’t say how long for sure, I’m sure it seemed to take longer than it actually took, but it was long enough for my nephew to tell him "that’s enough – let go".
I just want to know if this is normal, or if I should be concerned.

This is perfectly normal. The time it took for the doctor to examine him probably wasn’t as long as you think it was and your nephew’s reaction was probably more from embarrassment somewhat than anything else. However, I would think the doctor should have had gloves on to do the examination.
