I had seen this darkened color on his chest before and the vet said it was a yeast infection but it went away. My cocker spaniel has the hair all matted and wet from licking it and it is all stiff(the hair) I have tried soaking his paws in epsolm salts and scrubbing the paws with dog(oatmeal shampoo) and trying to keep it from him licking it but he continously licks it. I dont have money to take him to a vet right now. Is there something I can put on his paw? To help get rid of the yeast infection. Should I wrap his paw? It does have a small odor to it. Please help
My 10yr old cocker is also blind and deaf

Usually a yeast infection develops from the licking. I don’t know what to tell you about how to get him to stop or what to put on his paw but I can tell you that usually dogs that constantly lick their paws have developed an obsessive behavior, have something in their paw they are trying to remove, or have allergies. A lot of times at the vet we see dogs constantly licking their feet when they have allergies to something. To keep him from messing with it I would try using sound aversion to train him to lay off of it. Don’t allow the dog to see you but when he starts messing with his paw make a loud noise with a pot or horn or buzzer to deter him from it. He will then relate the licking to a negative noise. Hope that helps a bit!
Is it brown all around the foot and nail? Bathe his feet in shampoo once a day for two weeks, you can also apply benedryl cream to it (he’ll lick it off but it’s worth a try). You can also give him Benedryl, 1 capsule every 8 hours (each capsule is 25mg). Try only using it at night or when your not around to "correct" him fro licking.
