Yeast in my dogs ear!?

I have 2 Boston Terriers. The male keeps getting yeast ear infections. The vet has did the swab twice on him and gave me medicine to put in his ear, he fights me everytime I try to put the medicine in his ear. He is getting to the point that I can’t get it in his ear anymore, even with my fiance helping me to hold him. He flips his head all over and pushes away with his paws making it very hard. The medicine works when I can get it in there but thats the whole problem. They also gave me a short supply of pain meds for him. I tried giving him the pain med and then wait 30-40 min and then try to put the medicine in his ear but even then I can’t get it.

Anyone have any suggestions????

I have a vet appointment for my girl boston today in about an hour so I was going to bring it up to them about him again. But I’m just looking for a variety of suggestions.
We’ve also switched him to a food with no corn

My dog has bad allergies, so we have suffered with many ear infections. She is on a food now that seems to be doing the trick (Solid Gold). Anyway, she does not fight me much, but she will turn her head and it is hard for me to get the meds in there. I wait until she settles in bed with me for the night and then once she is lying down, I get it in there.

Also, ask your vet if you can soak a cotton pad (those makeup remover round pads) with the meds and squeeze/saturate the ears with that. It may be easier than the medication tube.

I wrap her head in the towel when I put a gentle ear cleaner in-ask your vet about that, because it works well for my dog. (I also heard that a solution of half water and half white vinegar is good, too). I use it once a week. I really think that is keeping the infections from returning, combined with the food.

Also, avoid treats with wheat. The only treats I give her are Blue Buffalo Health Bars-Apple and Yogurt and wheat-free mint biscuits. Anything with corn or wheat or dye gives her major problems.

I also have my dog on a prescription antihistamine, which helps, too. She licks herself compulsively and now it has decreased tremendously. One thing that could be making your dog’s ear worse if he or your other dog scratches it.

Good luck!!!!!!!!! I know how frustrating it is!

How about wrapping the dog up into a towel so only her head pops out. This way she can’t get her paws in the way to fight you so much. It is also a good and safe way to hold her when getting the meds into her ears.

This might sound cruel, but for my dog who struggles rather aggressively and makes a huge fuss over having his nails clipped, we have to pretty much sit on him to have access to his nails, so what i would recommened is pretty much doing the same. (my dog is a small dog too). Just sit on him enough to restrain, not to do any injury.

My last dog had ear problems and also hated treatment, but I started to do pretend ear checks for treats, just get your dog to sit in front of you, say ear, touch the ear and give a treat. When you can do this, then increase it by actually holding the ear and looking down, and then you can increase it again my using damp facial cleaners (use ear cleaning liquid) and just cleaning the outside, then later you can even push it down. My dog loved this as it must have itched. It will take a bit of time but it is worth it.

If he has allergies then you can ask for the test to find out what he has allergies to. If you fix the problem then you wont be spending 1000′s over the years when ever it acts up.

Tell the vet you want Fluconazole. It’s oral instead of drops.
