using garlic and yogurt to kill my yeast infection?

i have been told by MANY PEOPLE including doctors that its safe to use these products as long as you buy unflavored, active bacterial plain yogurt, and garlic is fine and will "burn" your skin but your skin is already burned so the garlic is in turn killing the bacteria, yadda yadda. ‘
id rather insert natural remedies into my vagina instead of nasty cream i dont even know what is in it.
so, im going to either use a new clean baster to insert the yogurt, or a tampon if i have enough lying around.
1.how long should i leave the tampon in myself? and
2. how long should i leave it in the yogurt before instering it? and
3. for how many days should i do this? including how many times a day?

now as for the garlic….
i dont want to just shove a whole clove up there without any sure fire way of retreval, i heard you could use gauze? i dont know if that is sanitary and i wouldnt even know how to go about wrapping the gauze around the clove.
so
1. whats the best way to get it up there, and easiest way of getting it out?
2. when is the best time to do this?
3. how many times should i do this?
4. for how long should i do this, how long in a day and for how many days?

please dont reply with stupid answers, im going to the store in a little bit to get what i need and REAL HELPFUL answers from intelligent people on the subject will be helpful.

also, best way to remove a male yeast infection at home? boyfriend has one.
@design girl, yes it is a money issue, and your answer really helped, im going to go ahead and try it and see if it helps out. thank you:]

and the other reason i dont like using the over the counter stuff is because i dont want all those side effects, im not going to risk getting a fever or stomach bleeding or all that other whacked out stuff, if i have trouble with this then yeah i guess its time to buy that stuff but im going to try it naturally first. my best friends mom swears by yogurt and garlic and shes been doing it since she was 13 and doesnt get them too frequently. my family are prone to yeast infections, my mom gets them so easily, so to save me the money and the time its easier and better to have an alternative. i dont trust modern medicine anyways.

firstly, you can get treatment from the pharmacy with out a prescription, for both, but i take it this is a money issue?

i’d say soak the tampon for about an hour, and don’t leave it in any longer that 8 hours. you could do it over night. nothing i have read suggests you should do it more that once in 24 hours. do it for a week then see how it’s going.

with the garlic and the gauze what to do would be to make a little sling for the garlic, fold the gauze in half over the clove and tie it to make like a tampon shape, complete with tail. I’d say the same as the yogurt, for use frequency and duration.

maybe you could do this for a week altogether, alternating yogurt and garlic. you will find the yogurt far more soothing that the garlic.

as for you boyfriend, i’ve never heard of any home treatments for men, but you could put some yogurt on it before bed every night, if it works for women, why not? just be sure to get it under the foreskin.

it also helps to have a high garlic diet, and low sugar.

EDIT: you are right about the over the counter stuff and side effects. i used one earlier this year and i got a reaction that was more pain full that the thrush! ick.

    P.S!!!
you should try having a bath with some vinegar in it. not so much that you feel like you are bathing in salad dressing but a splash or two, enough to change the ph balance of the water. i use this myself and it has a nice soothing effect as well as helping restore the ph balance in the problem area. could help your boyfriend too.

I don’t agree with any of that. Sorry, you need to proper anti-fungal treatment from the chemist/pharmacy to fully cure the yeast infection. If you do try at home remedies you may see some improvement of the condition at first, but then it never really goes away.
This is my opinion based on my professional experience, and this is what I advise people to do, and this is what I do myself – I always use and recommend the proper treatment. However, if you find someone elses answer to be more helpful to you then go for it :)

EDIT – Just one point I feel very strongly about, and that is putting food products into the vagina – I would never do it, nor would I recommend it. Surely if you have vaginal thrush it’s easier for you to take the one-dose capsule? And apply a bit of cream around the outside? Why go to all this bother for something that probably won’t work. Again, my opinion :)
